Question

Subject: Why is my site coming from California?!
I'm in London, but looking at your IPs it shows that you are serving my website from California. Can that be right? Why is
that? I thought you were supposed to serve my website from some places close to me?

Answer

Hello,

Thanks for reaching out to Cloudflare support.

You're right, the assigned IP addresses are registered to a Californian address. However, Cloudflare uses Anycast routing for these IP addresses. This means the addresses are announced from all of our network locations. You can view the full network map at https://www.cloudflare.com/network/. Your ISP should route your requests to the closest Cloudflare location, depending on their routing decisions.

Please see the following two resources for more details on Anycast:

Thank you very much,
Alexander

Reasoning

The usual confusion about the IP registration, as it often comes up on the Cloudflare community as well.
